2010 Mutual Community Challenge Tour a huge success

Today saw more than 8,000 participants ride in the 2010 Mutual Community Challenge Tour, the biggest event in the Santos Tour Down Under. Riders were raising money for the Unite In The Fight campaign being conducted by the Cancer Council of South Australia.

This year Guy Leech, winner of seven Iron Man Championships, and a holder of a World Iron Man title participated in the ride as an extension of his role as health ambassador for Mutual Community. Leech, who is extremely passionate about his health and that of the wider Australian community, said he was thrilled to participate in this iconic event and also to contribute in the fight to beat cancer.

"It was great to be on the road today and see so many Australians, from right around the country, supporting the Mutual Community Challenge Tour and raising money for such a worthy cause," he said.

"It's because of the 8,099 people who peddled along the course today that we are on track to raise more than $100,000 for the Cancer Council of South Australia.

"Preparing for this race has also given so many of the participants significant health benefits from engaging in regular physical activity. I hope that more Australians are inspired by this fantastic event and get active and come along for the ride next year," said Leech.

Mutual Community General Manager, Eric Granger, joined Leech in congratulating the entrants in today's ride.

"On behalf of Mutual Community, I would like to thank and congratulate every rider who participated in the event, which has been the biggest Mutual Community Challenge Tour yet," Granger said.

"We are also thrilled to be a part of an event which raises such a significant amount of funds for the fight against cancer. And without a doubt, your efforts are appreciated by the Cancer Council of South Australia and all those affected by the disease."

Granger continued that both the event, and its affiliation with fighting cancer, was a natural fit for Mutual Community given its commitment to promote healthy living and support the communities in which it operates.

"We have been a sponsor of the Mutual Community Challenge Tour since its inception in 2005 and we don't plan on going anywhere, anytime soon," said Granger.

Mutual Community has supported the Tour Down Under since 1999.
