Cancer Council SA target $100,000 in Unite in the fight campaign
Entrants in the 2010 Mutual Community Challenge Tour, the biggest event in the Santos Tour Down Under, are this year on track to raise more than $100,000 for Cancer Council SA.
So far just over $85,000 has been raised towards cancer research, support and prevention through generous donations from people all around Australia and with only a day left before the start of the race; Australians are being urged to continue to dig deep for the Unite In The Fight campaign.
This year more than 8000 participants will ride in the Mutual Community Challenge Tour on Friday 22 January, including Guy Leech, winner of seven Iron Man Championships, and a holder of a World Iron Man title.
Declared the "Fittest 40 year old on the planet" by Ultra Fit magazine just five years ago, Leech is passionate about his health and that of the wider Australian community. As such, he’s incredibly proud to be able to do his bit in the fight to beat cancer.
As the Mutual Community's Health Ambassador, Leech is calling for all Australians to get behind the Unite In The Fight campaign.
"Cancer effects so many people in our country, we all know someone who has been affected. I'm participating in the ride to help raise funds and attract the attention of the wider Australian community. I'd also like to highlight to people the huge health benefits of engaging in regular physical activity."
"To do your bit for your fellow Australians affected by this terrible disease, log onto www.uniteinthefight.com.au and donate whatever you can. Every little bit helps, and we really want to reach the $100,000 mark!" said Leech.
Professor Brenda Wilson, Cancer Council SA Chief Executive, echoes Leech in his call to action. "Whatever your reasons, stand up and Unite in the Fight to beat cancer. Show your support and take action through a simple donation, however big or small. With enough people uniting in this fight, we can create the type of momentum that lifts the fight to beat cancer to a new level. That is something everyone who donates to this campaign can be truly proud of," said Professor Wilson.
