Save for a lifetime
If you're over 31 and don't have private hospital cover, the sooner you get it, the smaller the loading you'll have to pay on your premium under the Government's Lifetime Health Cover scheme. If you're 31 or under, take out hospital cover now and you may avoid the loading altogether.

At least 30% off your premiums
Here's just another private health care benefit. You can save at least 30% on your hospital and extras premiums with the Government rebate on health insurance. If you're aged between 65 to 69, the rebate increases to 35%. And if you're aged 70 or over, it is 40%. So whatever your health insurance plans, you now have access to more affordable premiums.
The rebate is available to everyone who is eligible for Medicare.

Save on Tax
If you're single and your taxable income is over $73,000 a year, or a couple with a combined taxable income of $146,000 a year, or a family with a combined taxable income of $147,500 a year* and you don't have private hospital cover, you may have to pay the Medicare Levy Surcharge. This is a 1% tax on top of the 1.5% Medicare Levy paid by most taxpayers.
Why not avoid paying extra tax and get the health care benefits of private cover?

Save on health costs
It's a fact that you might not use your Mutual Community private health cover every month, but you will have to keep paying for it because that's the way insurance works.
This might lead you to wonder if it would be cheaper to put some money away each week and set up your own DIY private hospital fund.
We've done a few calculations to help you weigh up your options, and make the health insurance plans that are right for you. However, please note that the amounts outlined in the charts below include private hospital accommodation and medical treatment only. Rehabilitation would be extra.
A minor medical procedure
| If you set aside this amount each week | It will take this long to save $6,000 |
| $5 | 23 years, 5 days |
| $10 | 11 years, 185 days |
| $20 | 5 years, 275 days |

Remember too, what your Mutual Community private health cover premium pays for.
At Mutual Community Participating network hospitals (which includes most private hospitals in Australia) we pay all your accommodation expenses, theatre fees and intensive care fees, less the excess or co-payment that may apply to your cover.
